Elementary Articulation
The summer before 6th graders begin at Jane Addams families will receive a packet from our school informing them of the registration date along with emergency and meal applications forms. On the registration date, families will be able to purchase p.e. clothes, pick up textbooks and receive their schedule for the upcoming year.

Elementary Articulation
About 300 incoming 6th graders transition from three elementary feeder schools into Jane Addams each year. The counselors work hard to assist students and families with this transition. This transition process begins while students attend their fifth grade year in the elementary school. The counselors collaborate with fifth grade teachers to learn about each student so an appropriate schedule of classes can be assigned for 6th grade.
JAMS Visits Elementary schools
During the spring the counselors visit the elementary schools to provide fun-filled informational sessions to all the 5th grade students. Our principals, counselors, and social worker visit students and answer any questions they may have about the transition to middle school.
JAMS Tours & Scavenger Hunt
At the end of their 5th grade year students take a walking field trip to Addams where the counselors coordinate a scavenger hunt aimed at orienting students to their new school for the fall. If the feeder school needs chaperones, parents are welcomed to support the field trip.
Incoming 6th Graders parent Night
This meeting will explain the transition to middle school to parents. All incoming 6th grade families are encouraged to attend. Our counselors and principals will be present to answer any questions and share important details about our middle school. Translation will be provided.
